Genuine remorse
by Diego B. Ledda, Jr. - Freeliner
OUR COUNTRY is in disarray.
Our people do not trust the government. Our politicians keep on quarreling with each other from time to time. We are a nation divided by the wrong principles of our politicians.
Our economy fails to uplift the lives of the Filipinos. Poor people are suffering from endless poverty, while the rich people continue to gain more. Where does a Christian country like the Philippines go from here? Why are there partial and impoverished Christians? Does God allow it to happen to His people? Why is there social and economic discrimination? Is this His will to His people?
Sometimes people continue to ask questions about the fairness of God in our existence. We can see how the people bear pain and hopelessness. There are things we cannot comprehend how God works His ways. Perhaps, we could not understand Him well because we fail to listen to Him. We flounder to communicate or our means to convey our messages to Him is improper or we might be asking something from someone other than Him.
God created man to dwell and rule the earth. But man, being a sinner, continued to commit sins. So that the only way to redeem His people is to send His son, Jesus Christ whom we crucifiec. Yet, we falter throughout our lives and continue to commit sins. We put material things over our spiritual salvation. We love this earth more than we love God. People know God the most when they have problems, not during their bounty. There are people who have lived as paupers from the time they were born. They live more spiritually than those who gain more material aspirations.
The people see the politicians as pictures of hopelessness. There is a need to revalidate their faith in the rule of law and their trust in the integrity of our leaders. The need for genuine remorse must be pursued. Our political and church leaders are vital to forge to an everlasting peace. It is not only those among the New People’s Army or the MILF, but to all Filipinios. Many may have differed in approaches onhow to achieve peace, but there must be the focal point where all these differences can come to an agreement.
To folow the teachings of Christ maybe hard to a person who does not truly believe in Him. But it is easier to those who do the things according to His will. This is not only because it is necessarily needed, but, because we want to go to heaven when our time has come and done.
Eternal life is a promise and gift of God. It is a place with no rooms for hunger, thirst, or disunity. It is a place where those who sacrificed in His name can live forever. There is still a chance and that can start now.
