P12.4 million worth of crops destroyed in Pangasinan due to typhoon
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - Some P12.4 million worth of crops were destroyed by floods spawned by typhoon ‘Henry’ in Pangasinan last week.
A report of Provincial Agriculturist Jose Almendares showed that the bulk of the damages, costing P9.8 million, was on palay in their seedling, newly transplanted, tillering and vegetative stages.
All these were planted in 4,173.7 hectares of land that were under water for days.
The damages, said Almendares, were incurred in 89 barangays, located in 23 municipalities that were flooded.
Included among the damages were P178,820 worth of corn that were planted in 9.75 hectares, located in seven barangays of two municipalities; assorted vegetables in six barangays of three municipalities costing P345,000; and P2.1 million worth of fish in nine barangays of one municipality.
Most of the damages came from the second, third, fourth and fifth districts of Pangasinan. (PNA)
