PNP Chief assures Honasan will not be given special treatment

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - Philippine National Police Chief Director General Arturo Lomibao said here March 16 that former Gregorio Honasan will be treated just like any ordinary person with a warrant of arrest if he is arrested or he surrendered.

Pointing out that the PNP will not set any double-standard, Lomibao told newsmen when he graced the Gov. Victor Agbayani Cup Shoot Fest here that there is now a warrant of arrested by the court against Senator Honasan and other former retired officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

He explained that the warrant was issued by a court in Makati City in connection with the alleged involvement of Honasan and the other retired officers in the aborted Oakwood mutiny in 2003.

“We are now hunting Senator Honasan in the sense that there is now a warrant of arrest issued against him and his companions and it is the duty of the police to serve the warrant,” Lomibao clarified.

Corollary to this, Lomibao revealed that a reward may be set sometime in order to facilitate the arrest of Honasan, a retired colonel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and his companions, among them also retired military officers.

“With the reward money, we hope we can facilitate the service of the warrants if not surrender of former Senator Honasan,” he said, disclosing feelers he already received Honasan’s surrender.

The reward money, he said, will come from the PNP itself because there is an appropriation for rewards of wanted persons in its budget.

“All these persons now who are incidentally at large will be subjects of rewards plus their warrants of arrest,” Lomibao stressed.

Asked by newsmen if he thinks Honasan is still in the country, Lomibao said, “The information that we received is that he is still here but we don’t really know, up to the time that we received the report, if he is still indeed in the country.”

Asked further on where Honasan would be detained in case he is arrested, Lomibao said it will depend on the court, which is the court in Makati City on where it wants Honasan and company to be detained.

“I think the judge of the court where the warrant originated will designate where the subject would be detained.” (PNA)
