More benefits for daycare workers mulled
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - The provincial government is studying measures that provide more benefits to day care workers.
Board Member Marlyn Primicias-Agabas said she has filed a proposed ordinance which seeks to provide guidelines for hiring, removal and renumeration of daycare workers all over the province.
“There is a need to come up with such an ordinance to ensure that standards met in terms of qualifications of daycare workers and that they are renumerated in accordance with the service they rendered,” she said.
Among the qualifications being sought are that day care workers should be resourceful and creative, able to make “on the spot” decision especially if it pertains to the welfare and safety of the children under her care, at least a high school graduate, and a resident of a barangay where the center is located.
Under the proposed Provincial Ordinance No. 36-2006, each daycare worker is entitled to at least P2,000 monthly allowance to be shouldered by the municipality, provincial government and barangay.
The other benefits being sought are clothing allowance equivalent to what is being received by barangay officials, cash gift of P1,000, travel expenses, GSIS insurance, training and career enrichment program. (PIO/Jennifer Domantay)
