Poll body not satisfied with registration turnout
DAGUPAN CITY - The Commission on Elections is not satisfied with the turnout of voters’ registration nationwide.
This was revealed by Dagupan City Election Officer Remarque Ravanzo even as he said that the poll body has come up with a measure to remedy the situation.
Ravanzo, a lawyer, said the Commission has promulgated Comelec Resolution No. 7684 ordering the conduct of registration on Sundays in offices of election officers nationwide, including three municipalities in the National Capital Region.
Aside from Dagupan, there are three other cities in Pangasinan, namely San Carlos, Urdaneta and Alaminos.
The resolution substantially amended the workdays of the field offices concerned setting registration of voters from Sunday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Ravanzo said.
Voters’ registration started last May 16, 2005 and will end on December 31 this year.
He explained that the Comelec deemed it necessary to “temporarily adjust” the regular office hours of the Offices of the Election Officers in all cities in the country to afford students and workers in urban areas ample time and opportunity to file their application and registration.
Apart from registration, application for transfer, reactivation of registration, correction of entries and change of name are also being processed.
First time registrants must be Filipino citiznes, at least 18 years old on or before the day of the elections, a resident of the Philippines for at least one year, a resident of the city (or municipality) for at least six months on or before the day of the election and not otherwise disqualifieda by law.
