Radio reporter’s slaying under probe
SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union - Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Leopoldo Bataoil rushed on Friday to Batac, Ilocos Norte to get first hand information into the slaying Wednesday night of a radio reporter in that town.
Slain with three stab wounds in different parts of his body at about 10:00 p.m. Wednesday was Andy Acosta, 46, a beat reporter of radio station DZJC in Laoaga City and a native of Batac town.
Acosta was on board his motorcycle while he was bound for home to Batac from Laoag City when he was stabbed by the unidentified suspect or suspects using an ice pick in different parts of his body.
Bataoil earlier ordered Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Director Roman Felix and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group regional chief Melvin Bolabola to proceed to Batac and supervise the ongoing investigation of the case with instructions to immediately identify the suspects.
Bataoil said CIDG investigators are now coordinating with the station managers of radio station DZJC and the relatives of the victims to determine the possible motive of the slaying.
A report said that after he was stabbed, Acosta still managed to drive his motorcycle but before he reacheda the Don Mariano Marcos International Hospital, he slumped in his motorcycle.
A bystander identified as Lambert Asuncion saw Acosta and rushed him to the hospital but unfortunately the mediamen was declared dead on arrival.
Bataoil said the investigators will determine whether the slaying was work-related or had stemmed from personal grudge.
Acosta had just attended a Christmas party of the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative at the Northern Hotel in Laoag City, leaving there at about 9 p.m. where the incident happened. (PNA)
