BSL’s chances against JdeV

‘LAKAS has no gubernatorial bet as yet — Speaker JdV’ — headline. Now, if it turns out later that there is an oversupply of bets for the administration, it should just juggle the letters of LAKAS and come up with parties like AKLAS or KALAS or SAKAL for all of them; or just add one letter to form ALASKA dahil “ang dami namang pulitikong nanga-ALASKA rin lang!”

Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Danilo C. Uy was virtually given a clean bill of health during the commitee hearing of the SP to ferret out the truth in the claim of spurious newspapers Banat and Upak that he is a drug lord. All right, to the tune of Paruparong Bukid, let’s sing:

“Masaya si Danny… UY!

Hindi raw siya drug lord… UY!

Kahit binanatan, kahit inupakan;

Malinis si Danny…. UY!

Kahit manalamin… UY!

Ang napatunayan:

Banat — sinungaling!

‘CBCP urges faithful to be vigilant, watchful on May 14 elections — newshead. In short: CBCP! ‘Citizens, Be Careful of Politicians’, eh?

A status quo for Speaker Jose C. de Venecia, Jr., City Mayor Benjamin S. Lim and Vice Mayor Alvin D. Fernandez was sought by Dagupan City barangay heads in a manifesto so as “to preserve political unity.” Hey, let that matter pass through a Con-Ass or a People’s Initiative, ha?

‘Despite rosy growth statistics, more Filipinos go to bed hungry’ — title of reader’s letters. Well, at least, majority of them still wake up alive the next morning!

Reservists at Camp Tito Abat in Manaoag were warned to refrain from being used by unscrupulous aspiring politicians or face non recognition. Hmmm… the same warning should also be given to certain local mediamen who are unashamedly kissing the asses of corrupt and devilish politicians to the detriment of journalism!

‘Malacañang may back Chavit’s (Singson) Senate bid’ — newshead. Looks like it needs someone in the slate who can really sing songs; but the people will eventually decide whether Singson’s sung songs are acceptable or not!

A certain fourth district mayor has a point when he plugs for Speaker Jose C. de Venecia, Jr. for reelection as congressman of the district in the May 2007 polls.

Says he, and quite confidently at that: “Let us continue to possess the honor and distinction which Pangasinan currently owns — that of being the province of the Speaker of the House of Representatives. This is very much possible if Joe de V wins anew as congressman of the fourth district, his stepping stone towards becoming eligible to run for the Speakershop of the Lower House.”

So let’s look at anothe scenario.

Undeniably, there are some congressmen who are eyeing the Speakership post with lust in their eyes. One can mention a number of names who are keenly interested in De Venecia’s chair. However, admittedly, Joe de V holds away over quite a number of legislators who are his supporters in staying put in his post. What I mean is that if those coveting the post would fight it out right there in the Congress halls, they might not be able to woo the needed number who can propel them to the Speakership. Spending for more than one half of the House membership would entail quite a sum!

So what could be less expensive? Obviously, it is to lick Joe right in his district so that he can no longer advance to the Lower House and thus kiss his ambition to become Speaker anew a sad farewell. And who is in a position to give that kind of fight to Joe? Right now, it is only the guy who had made known his intention to do battle with JdV — Dagupan City Mayor Benjamin Saplan Lim.

Many believe that even if BSL has the money, it would still be peanuts to what Joe de V can dish out in a furious campaign. The insinuation is that Joe has more resources than BSL. “Para bang kung milyonaryo si Benjie, bilyonaryo si Joe!

So who can help BSL realize a victory when resources are concerned? Hah! No one else but the potential Speakers in the next Congress, of course! It will not be too far-fetched to presume or speculate or assume or ever conclude that they would only be too willing to help BSL so that their dreams or ambition would turnto reality.

Everything would be going their way. If they help BSL, they need not worry about him — as he is not a Speakership material. They can fight among themselves without having to reckon with the winning charm of their then seemingly indestructible foe: Joe.

That way, everybody would be happy. The contender who is strongest will sit down as Speaker, BSL will return as a congressman after six years as city mayor, the Fernandezes will find the road wide open for them in the city mayorship and Joe de V — can become the full time husband for Georgina de Venecia. “Wala nang magiging kaagaw si Gina diyan!”

Wow! A fairy tale ending for all, di ba?
