DAGUPAN CITY – The city government will put up its telephone hotline 3-2-4 at its emergency action center where all residents may dial if the needed help in any kind of emergency.

Hotline 3-2-4 can be accessed by facilities of any telecommunications company operating in the city, said Dagupan City Administrator Alvin Fernandez.

Fernandez said what is unique is that the hotline will be manned by persons with disabilities who are now being trained by a reputed call center institution so that they can be more effective in their work.

Similar to 9-1-1 in the United States, Hotline 3-2-4 will be open 24 hours a day, to be able to receive any request of assistance, especially during emergencies.

It can also be called whenever a mother is delivering a baby, when the expectant mother needs to be rushed to the hospital, said Fernandez.

The emergency action center to be located at the Dagupan City Museum, was envisioned by Mayor Alipio Fernandez, Jr. in coordination with various agencies of the government, and non-government organizations for the city to be able to respond to any kind of emergencies that affect its citizens, administrator Fernandez said.

A mobile clinic made available earlier by then Speaker Jose de Venecia, Jr. congressman of the fourth district of Pangasinan, will be on stand-by 24 hours a day at the city plaza for any kind of emergency. (PNA)

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo inaugurated Saturday the newly-completed Domalandan bridge in Lingayen costing more than P700 million.

The bridge, a vital span between eastern and western Pangasinan across the Limahong channel that empties its water into the Lingayen Gulf, measures more than 600 meters and is one of the longest bridges in Pangasinan.

The new bridge replaced an old structure that was destroyed by a big flood in 1999 during the administration of former President Joseph Estrada.

However,  construction of the new bridge started only in 2001 when President Arroyo took over the funding coming from part of the yearly budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways. Read more

DAGUPAN CITY - The Commission on Elections is not satisfied with the turnout of voters’ registration nationwide.

This was revealed by Dagupan City Election Officer Remarque Ravanzo even as he said that the poll body has come up with a measure to remedy the situation.

Ravanzo, a lawyer, said the Commission has promulgated Comelec Resolution No. 7684 ordering the conduct of registration on Sundays in offices of election officers nationwide, including three municipalities in the National Capital Region. Read more

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - With only its railings being completed, the P700 million Domalandan bridge will be fully completed December 23 this year, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

DPWH Regional Director Fidel Ginez said with only the middle span of the bridge put under the curing stage, the 700-meter bridge spanning across the Limahong channel in Lingayen can now be walked on by pedestrian traffic.

Ginez who recently inspected the project, said the bridge is still close for vehicular traffic but he advised motorists to wait a little, as eventually, it will soon be opened. Read more

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - The provincial government is studying measures that provide more benefits to day care workers.

Board Member Marlyn Primicias-Agabas said she has filed a proposed ordinance which seeks to provide guidelines for hiring, removal and renumeration of daycare workers all over the province.

“There is a need to come up with such an ordinance to ensure that standards met in terms of qualifications of daycare workers and that they are renumerated in accordance with the service they rendered,” she said. Read more

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - All is set for the first round evaluation of participants in the Search for the Cleanest Coastal Municipality (Linis Dayat program) slated from October 23 to November this year.

Now on its seventh year, the program was further intensified through the  years with the revision of its criteria.

A brainchild of Gov. Victor E. Agbayani that has earned international citation, the Linis Dayat program was launched in 2001 to save the Lingayen Gulf from further degradation brought about by illegal fishing activities, pollution, destruction of mangroves and siltation. Read more

CALASIAO, Pangasinan - A top official of Customs said that the Philippine Customs office will soon be at par with the best Customs officers in the world though its continuing computerization program and acquisition  of modern equipment, systems and technology.

Lawyer Gallant D. Soriano, officer-in-charge in the Office of the Deputy Customs Commissioner, said with these innovations, the program “nothing moves in Customs without being captured by the computers” shall have been achieved.

Speaking to newsmen here, the youngest son of the late Rep. Jack Soriano, also former mayor of San Carlos City, said this  will be achieved through the second phase of BoC’s computerization program called the Automated Systems Customs Data (ASYCUCDA) to be completed in January next year.

Soriano said the project was bankrolled by P500 million from President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s e-Governance fund. Read more

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - The second round of the provincewide Search for Model Barangays on Eco-Waste Management System will take off in October.

This was announced by lawyer Zoilo Andin, executive director of the National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC), during the two-day provincial summit on Solid Waste Management hosted by the provincial government recently.

The second nationwide search is a “follow through” of the 2004 search wherein the province of Pangasinan landed in the fourth slot with the Material Recovery Facility of Barangay Bued in Calasiao as entry. More than 1,000 barangays all over the country participated in the search. Read more

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - Preparations are underway for the upcoming 17th National Statistics Month Celebration this coming October, according to Board Member Dionisio ‘Saffe’ A. Villar, Jr.

BM Villar, this year’s NSM acting chairman, presided over the first meeting of the steering committee last Tuesday at the Lingayen Gulf Resort Hotel with various line agencies to come up with different activities to be undertaken for the month-long celebration.
