DAGUPAN CITY - An official of the Department of Health based in Pangasinan maintained his previous statement that there is already an indication of the outbreak of dengue hemorrhagic fever in Pangasinan despite denial by provincial health officials.
Dr. George Calugay, DOH representative in Pangasinan, said he made the statement that the situation is indicative of an outbreak because he was strictly speaking from the point of view of public health.
Calugay exressed the view that the confirmed cases of dengue and those suspected have no distinction at all since the latter are also indicative of dengue.
“Depending on public perceptino, it may alarm or not alarm the people. But an outbreak is lesser in spread while an epidemic is wide in spread,” he said.
He added that although an outbreak and epidemic differ in scope, “these two terms are synonymous in public health.”
From Calugay’s list, Dagupan has the biggest number of dengue cases with 69, followed by Sta. Barbara with 14 and Lingayen, 12. Read more

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - The provincial government is not running away from its commitment to its over 3,000 workers to give their additional compensation allowance at P1,000 a month retroactive January this year.
Vice. Gov. Oscar Lambino said the provincial board of which he is the presiding officer is in full accord to the earlier commitment given the workers by Gov. Victor Agbayani.
But he said the employees must wait for a little while because the P42 million envisioned for the financial bonanza will come from the net proceeds from the withheld Internal Revenue Allotment of the province for 2000 and 2001 which will eventually be released by an authorized bank through the monetization scheme.
